An AI receptionist for junk removal companies that gives the ballpark and books the truck
A junk removal caller wants two things before they hang up: roughly what it will cost, and when the truck can come. In September 2026 we added a junk removal profile so the AI can answer both on the first call. Here's exactly what it does, and what it won't do.
Ballpark prices by phone and text, and the Quick Quote page, work when you turn on the estimator in Settings (included on Elite, a $20/month add-on on Basic and Pro). With it off, Alex books the visit instead of giving a price.
Where junk removal companies actually lose the job
Junk removal callers shop on two things, price and speed, and they shop fast. Someone cleaning out a garage on a Saturday morning searches, calls the first three names, and books whoever gives them a number and a time. If you're on the truck carrying a sectional down a flight of stairs, the call goes to voicemail, and that customer doesn't leave a message. They're already talking to the next company.
The calls you do answer have their own trap. Say "probably around two hundred" to a caller and it can turn into a three-quarter truck with a refrigerator in it. Now you're either eating the difference or arguing about the price on the driveway, and neither one gets you a five-star review. Refuse to give any number and you lose the caller to the company that did.
And a lot of these calls come in when nobody is at a desk: evenings, weekends, the day before a move-out. The office-hours answering service takes a message; the customer books someone who called back first.
What the AI does on a junk removal company call
The AI answers as your company, in about two rings, day or night, on as many simultaneous calls as come in. It asks what a good dispatcher asks: what's going (a couple of items, a room, a garage, a whole house), roughly how much, where it is (curbside, garage, basement, upstairs), whether there's a mattress, a fridge or freezer, a TV, or anything unusually heavy, the address, and when they want it gone.
Then Alex, the AI receptionist, does the thing a voicemail can't: it gives a ballpark. It reads from your price sheet, priced by truck volume, and says it like a person: "A half truck usually runs about two seventy-five to four fifty. They'll confirm the exact price when they see it, before they start." It adds the per-item disposal fees you charge. It never gives a firm price, and it never skips the "crew confirms on site" line.
Some jobs never get a phone price, and Alex knows which: more than one truckload, concrete, dirt, brick or shingles, hot tubs, pianos and safes, and anything hazardous. Those callers get an on-site quote booked instead.
Then it books. Your calendar is split into two-hour arrival windows (8 to 10, 10 to 12, and so on), same-day booking is allowed with two hours' notice, and the number of jobs per window matches your number of trucks. The AI only offers windows that still have a truck open, and it never books four jobs into a window you can run two in. It knows your service area, so the call from sixty miles out gets a polite no. Robocalls and lead sellers get dropped.
Callers who find you online can do the same thing on your website: the Quick Quote asks the junk removal questions, shows a range, and lets them pick a time. A customer who texts a photo of the pile gets that Quick Quote link back, and the photo is saved to their customer card.
What happens after the call
If you run more than one truck, turn on auto-assign and the booking goes to a crew automatically: whoever works that day, is free in that window, and has the fewest jobs so far. That crew lead gets a Google Calendar invite with the address and notes, a briefing text before the visit, and the job in their AIFDH app with the same arrival window the customer was promised. If they share their own Google Calendar's free/busy, a personal appointment blocks them automatically. If you'd rather dispatch yourself, leave it off and assign from the lead page.
Callers who got a price but didn't book ("let me check with my landlord," "I need to see what my brother is taking") go into a follow-up text sequence at 24 hours, 3, 5 and 10 days, which stops the moment they reply. Missed calls get a text back within seconds. Customers booked for another day get a reminder. And every number you publish (Google, the truck wrap, Nextdoor, the realtor you partner with) is tracked as its own lead source, so you can see which one produces booked jobs.
A week on the phone, junk removal company edition
This is an example of how the system handles a week, not a customer's results.
Saturday, 9:10 am. Your two trucks are already out. A homeowner calls about a garage: an old couch, boxes, a broken treadmill and a chest freezer. Alex works out it's about half a truck, quotes about $275 to $450 plus the freezer fee, says the crew will confirm before loading, and offers 1 to 3 pm today. Booked. It goes to the crew with the lighter day, and the job shows up on the driver's phone before they finish the job they're on.
At 9:25 a caller wants a hot tub gone. No phone price for that; the AI books an on-site look for Monday morning. At 11:40 a property manager needs a move-out apartment cleared by Tuesday; she gets a Monday afternoon window. At 4:30 someone asks about a single mattress; Alex quotes the single-item price plus the mattress fee and books tomorrow morning.
Tuesday, the day-3 follow-up goes to a Saturday caller who got a price but didn't book. She replies: "Can you do Thursday?" That job was gone on the old voicemail.
What AI Front Desk Helper does besides answer the phone
Answering the phone is the entry point, not the product. Here is the rest of what runs once a contractor is on AI Front Desk Helper:
- Booking that respects your calendar. Alex checks your own Google Calendar and offers real open times, so it never books a slot you're already on a job for. Jobs per time slot, arrival windows, appointment length, same-day booking and service days by ZIP code are all settings. Reschedules and cancellations move or remove the event.
- Crews, not just one calendar. Optional auto-assign books each job to a free crew member in turn, using their own calendar and work days, and adds them to the event. Repeating visits (weekly, every two weeks, monthly) can be paused for one customer or for the season.
- After-hours emergencies. You write what counts as an emergency and list up to three on-call phones. Alex rings them in order with a text briefing, and the tech presses 1 to take the call. Emergency texts and website chats alert the same phones, and a tech can reply CALL to be connected.
- Photos by text. Customers can text a photo to your number. Alex saves it to their card, forwards an emergency photo to the on-call phones, sends your Quick Quote link for a job it can price, and offers a visit for anything else.
- Straight answers on price. With the estimator turned on, for junk removal, window cleaning, pressure washing, house cleaning, pest control, garage doors, pool service, flooring, concrete, window installation, stump grinding and lawn care, Alex gives a ballpark from your own price sheet and says the crew confirms on site. Trades that price on site can set a service call fee, and Alex answers financing and insurance questions from what you set. No number you didn't give it.
- Instant online quotes. A branded quote-and-book page for your business (yours looks like quote.yourcompany.com) where customers get a ballpark and pick a time, day or night. Built in for painting, roofing, siding, fencing, gutters and the twelve trades above, and switched on with the estimator (included on Elite, a $20/month add-on on Basic and Pro).
- Estimate follow-up that doesn't quit. Text sequences at 24 hours, 3, 5 and 10 days on every quote that hasn't closed, written like a contractor, stopping the moment the customer replies.
- Objection detection. "Too expensive" or "need to think about it" triggers a recovery script instead of a polite goodbye.
- Outbound campaigns. AI calls and texts to your past-customer list for seasonal reactivation, win-backs and referral asks. You set the campaign; it dials.
- Google Business Profile, handled. Every new review gets an owner reply drafted for you; profile posts can be drafted, approved and scheduled weeks ahead; a profile health audit shows how you stack up against nearby competitors.
- Revenue coaching by lead source. Every phone number is tied to where it came from (Angi, LSA, Facebook, referral, yard sign), so the dashboard shows which marketing produces booked revenue and which to cut.
- Customer DISC profiles. Every caller and texter gets a buying-style read (D, I, S or C) from what they actually said, with a confidence flag, so you walk into the estimate knowing how to sell to them.
- Franchise HQ. One rollup across every location for multi-unit operators.
- Reseller program. Agencies can offer the whole system under their own brand. How it works.
- Optional add-on: AI Rep Coach. Records in-home estimates and coaches the people who sell, with manager review and team analytics. Sold separately, per seat.
Setup for a junk removal company
In Settings, pick Junk Removal as your trade. That loads the junk removal price sheet. Turn on the estimator in Settings, and Alex uses it on calls and texts and the junk removal Quick Quote goes on your website. Click See the prices the AI quotes to read the exact sheet. It starts from a regional default (higher in high-cost states, lower in low-cost ones), and you move each line up or down by percentage until it matches what you charge. Apply the recommended scheduling (two-hour arrival windows, same-day with two hours' notice), then set jobs-per-window to your number of trucks, or add your crew and turn on auto-assign. Forward your existing number or port it. Customers keep calling the number they already have.
A straight answer about where this comes from: AI Front Desk Helper was built and tested inside my painting company. The junk removal profile was added in September 2026. The behavior described on this page is what the system does today; we don't have results from junk removal companies to publish yet, and we won't make them up. When we have real numbers we'll put them here.

Which plan for a junk removal company
Most junk removal companies belong on Pro. Booking into arrival windows on your calendar, reminders and quote follow-up all live there, and a same-day trade runs on booking. Basic answers every call and captures the lead but doesn't book, which gives back the main advantage in this trade. Elite is worth it once you have repeat business to work: outbound campaigns to property managers, realtors and past customers, replies to every Google review, and revenue by lead source.
Questions junk removal companies ask
Will Alex give prices over the phone?
Yes, as a range, never a firm number. It prices by truck volume from your price sheet, adds your disposal fees for mattresses, fridges and TVs, and always tells the caller the crew confirms the exact price on site before loading.
Where do the prices come from?
From a price sheet you control. It starts with regional defaults (for example, a half truck is $275 to $450 in a mid-cost area), and you adjust each service by percentage to match your rates. You can open the exact sheet the AI reads at any time.
What won't it quote by phone?
More than one truckload, concrete, dirt, brick or shingles, hot tubs, pianos and safes, and anything hazardous. Those callers get an on-site quote booked instead of a number.
Can it book same-day jobs?
Yes. With the recommended settings it books two-hour arrival windows, same day with two hours' notice, and only offers windows where a truck is still open.
How does it pick which crew gets the job?
With auto-assign on: whoever is working that day, is free in that window, and has the fewest jobs so far. The job goes on their Google Calendar and in their app. With it off, you assign from the lead page.
Was this built by a junk removal company?
No. It was built and tested inside a painting company, and the junk removal profile was added in September 2026. Everything on this page is what the system does today; we'll publish results from junk removal companies once we have them.
